Things By the Sea in Kaikoura

After our Whale Watch trip we ventured to the southern end of Kaikoura where there is a small seal colony and a variety of birds and other wild life

141b (1024x683) Might not seem very exciting to you, but it’s a very fast moving Westland Petrel which I captured while on a moving boat! 278b (1024x683)Interesting rock formations 331b (1024x683) A friendly Gannet

Ambivalent seashore wandering geese

Huge specimens and huge quantities of seaweed washed up, probably in the recent storm

Wasps are not exactly sealife, but it was right beside me so I had to take it
341b (1024x683) we were told not to get between a seal and the sea
so I’m glad it was asleep

the seals come up off the beach to laze around and sleep in amongst the foliage.  It would be too easy to stand on one
